Reflexology is a form of foot massage, originally practised some 5,000 years ago by both the Chinese and Egyptians.
It is believed that the foot mirrors the body and that by gently pressing the appropriate reflex for a particular organ we can help it to find equilibrium and to function more efficiently.
Even major problems can be helped and a high success rate has been achieved with both physical and emotional disorders.
Because the therapist works on the clients feet and sometimes hands reflexology is particularly suitable for people who have difficulty lying down or who are too weak for a full body massage ie - someone who is seriously ill, after a major operation, anyone who is paralysed or in a wheelchair.
In all these cases the reflexologist would gently press the foot to encourage the body to activate it`s own healing systems.
Reflexology, is also excellent for relaxation and general health maintenance.
Reflexology can help:
Digestive disorders - colitis, Crohn`s Desease, IBS
Respiratory conditions - asthma, hayfever, bronchitis
Skin problems, psoriaris, excema
Emotional problems - substance dependence, depression, bereavement
Circulatory systems - high/low blood pressure, after a heart attack or stroke
COSTS:
Treatment lasts about 45-60 minutes and is carried out with the client fully clothed, seated in a chair and cost ₤ 35.
A course of 6-8 treatments is generally recommended in order to properly get to the root of the problem and activate the body`s own healing abilities.
